The Magician Tarot Card Meaning

The Story of The Magician represents infinity. All the minor arcana are in front of him as he raises his wand.. This is the second card in the Major Arcana after The Fool. After coming to grips with the physical body, the child learns that all things are possible and even goals that may appear impossible can be realised in the right circumstances. The appropriate motive, place and time coupled with the correct tools enable great achievements along the journey of life.

The imagery in this picture is vibrant and colorful. The Magician holds one hand up to the sky as if summoning power from the Universe and getting inspiration and points towards the ground, which symbolizes Earth. He wears a red robe and white undergarment with a snake for a belt. The snake is eating its tail. This represents repetitive circumstances and again infinity.

There is a table full of The Fool’s belongings laid out in front of him, which are the four Minor Arcana. They represent the combination of the right motive (cups), a clear plan (sword), enthusiasm (wands) and practical application. These are the life tools required for achieving your purpose.

The general meaning of The Magician is that it is an appropriate time to make decisions and begins new projects. He represents making something real out of opportunities and possibilities. Everybody has unlimited potential to be the best they can be but few people realize there true potential. This is a card for turning ideas and inspiration into practical and tangible results.

This is symbolic of losing connection with the earth or with the heavens. The Magician has become ungrounded and disturbed. He is unable to use the lessons of the Minor Arcana. He may receive inspiration but is unsure how to put it to proper use.
